At the heart of it all is our Managing Director, Jared. From emergency services vehicle exhaust systems to remote installations with cutting-edge IIoT monitoring, Jared brings a blend of technical confidence and down-to-earth problem solving that sets the tone for everything we do at AtSource.
From Family Business to Founding AtSource
Jared’s journey began in a family-run ventilation business, where he spent his university holidays working on large-scale projects, including dairy factories across New Zealand. His natural interest in machinery — particularly vehicles — led him to study a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agricultural Engineering at Massey University, where he developed a solid grounding in mechanical systems, hydraulics, and thermodynamics.
After a few years in civil construction, Jared helped establish AtSource in its early days. He was drawn to the vehicle exhaust side of the work, especially within emergency services — a sector that continues to be one of our areas of deep expertise.
“We haven’t found a fire station yet that we couldn’t provide a solution for,” Jared says. “We’ve got more experience in this space than anyone else in New Zealand — and probably this part of the world.”
A Passion for Smart, Practical Design
Jared brings a mix of formal qualifications, specialist training, and industry experience to every project, including:
- BAppSc (Ag Eng)
- Producer Statement Author (PS1)
- Explosion safety training
- Ongoing Nederman product training
He’s hands-on with product development too, often contributing feedback and ideas to Nederman’s engineering teams. “We always focus on user-friendliness and designing systems that are robust and low maintenance,” he explains.
Whether he’s designing a workshop extraction system or advising on explosion isolation for a hazardous dust environment, his approach is always rooted in practicality and long-term performance.
Learning Never Stops — And Neither Does Innovation
In a fast-evolving industry, Jared’s commitment to staying up to date is evident.
“I enjoy the challenge of continual learning,” he says. “It’s about striving to be more efficient, producing a better result, and keeping up with new technology.”
That includes participating in Nederman’s international training programmes, expanding our product offering, and recently connecting with the NZ Occupational Hygiene Society to stay aligned with industry best practices.
Right now, Jared’s particularly excited about new digital control and IIoT monitoring technology — part of a major installation currently underway. “Watch this space,” he says.
